NOTE: The novarks spreadsheet is heavily dependent on Macros, and thus your copy of Excel must be configured to allow macros to run.
This is what I recommend:
Configure the macro security setting to medium.
In Excel 2002 or 2003, you can find this option from the menu: Tools --> Options --> Security --> Macro Security --> 'medium'.
In Excel 2007 or 2010, this option can be found by clicking the top-left 'Office' button, then --> Excel Options --> Trust Center --> Trust Center Settings --> Macro Settings --> 'Disable all macros with notification'
You'll be prompted every time you open this spreadsheet: click 'Allow Macros'.
FYI, OpenOffice 'calc' can open the spreadsheet and work fine for the most part, but the macros do not work at all, so many features do not work.
I have a copy of Excel XP (2002) if anyone needs this, let me know. This is what I use, although the spreadsheet will work fully with any version of Excel, 2002 or newer.
Sortable player columns:
Go to the 'Players' tab - note the buttons frozen to the top row of the spreadsheet.
Use the left-most buttons to sort players by:
3-yr total points - OR - can be used as a custom sortable column (descending sort)
2013 NoVarks salary
(GP) NHL Games Played (live) (blank if no longer considered a 'rookie')
2013 points (live)
2013 points per game (live)
Projected 2013 points (Dobber)

Custom sortable column (ascending sort)
Players are always grouped by position: D/F/G.
Use the right-most buttons to jump from group to group Defense/Forwards/Goalies:
Use the stat 'Update' button to retrieve live statistics throughout the season.
Enable 'Auto' stat updates to automatically retrieve statistics each time the spreadsheet is opened.
Roster worksheet:
Go to the 'Lineups' tab
In any of the rosters, DOUBLE-click directly to the right of the round number.
Start typing the surname of a player until the spreadsheet 'auto-completes' the name of the player you're looking for and press ENTER.
Notice the player's position and salary automatically fill in to the right of the players name.
To delete or replace a player in a roster, SINGLE-click the players name and press the DELETE key.
Notice the information below the roster automatically updates (cap space used/remaining, positions filled, etc.)
Hover over salary cell to show the next 3 year's salary info:
Keepers:
This information will also be available in the 'Lineups' tab
The 'contract year' for each keeper player will be noted to the right of that player's salary (ie. 2,3 or 4 - players in first year have not been 'kept' yet, and therefore aren't yet identified as keepers)
The number of games played by a 'Rookie' are shown in the same column.
The color scheme is described at the bottom of this tab.
'Rookie Keepers' are indicated in with an 'R' to the right of their salary.
Draft Pick Matrix:
Go to the 'Draft Picks' tab
Draft matrix is shown for 2 seasons in advance.
If picks are traded, the changes will be reflected in these matrices.
This matrix determine the future draft order(s), working from top to bottom for each round.
