These are the plans for 2 Olympic pools.
These are both optional. If you don't care to participate, just announce so on the msg board.
NoVarks Olympic Pool:
Everyone's Olympic representatives have been highlighted in the latest editions of the spreadsheet. Nearly all of us have some really strong players participating in the Olympics.
Here's the proposed Rules:
1. Choose 5 Olympic players from your NoVarks roster. No position roster restrictions. Double check participating players: http://www.iihf.com/channels10/olympics-2010/rosters.html
2. Defenseman Goals are worth 2 points, otherwise the same NoVarks scoring applies.
3. Also, points scored against Canada DO NOT COUNT. (FYI: Canada plays Denmark, Switzerland & USA in prelim round).
4. For those with fewer options, you may choose un-picked players on LOAN from other teams for an additional $1 (to the prize pot).
5. $10 per entry. Winner take all. Tiebreakers: highest ppg, followed by goals, assists
6. Submit rosters via PoolExpert msg board by 11am Tuesday Feb 16. Changes may be made up until this deadline.
Player 'loans':
-After all teams are announced, I will post the list of un-picked players available for loan.
-Player 'loans' may take place on the PoolExpert msg board, between 11am-3pm EST Tuesday.
-These players will be 'drafted' according to the reverse standings as of Feb 15th. Please state beforehand if you plan on participating in this mini 'draft'.
Team Canada Box Pool - UPDATED:
This is just Canadian players and the pool would be open to a few outsiders also.
I've already changed my mind about this. The original idea was too likely to end in a 3-way tie. I've decided to change this up a bit to make it a bit harder, and further ensure unique picks.
This pool simply counts points, with 2pts for any goalie win (no extra pts for shutout)
Here's what you need to do:
RANK THE PLAYERS IN EACH GROUP, from highest point getter to lowest point getter:
** or injury replacement (Jeff Carter)
Each player will be scored according to how correctly you predicted their points ranking, following this scoring system:
Highest overall total wins.
Ties amongst player within a group will be averaged, which may results in half points being awarded (ie. sort of like yahoo! rotisserie rankings would be done).
For full details, see scoring examples below.
Scoring Examples:
Here are 3 possible scoring outcomes if you'd picked Group A as follows: Crosby, Iginla, Heatley, Thornton:
In Example A: you get 3 points for guessing Crosby correctly, you were off by 1 for both Heatley & Thornton, so you get 2 points for each, and you were off by 2 spots for Iginla, so you get just 1 point for him. Total 8 pts.
In Example B: you were off by 2 spots for Heatley and get 1 point for him, off by 1 for Crosby for 2 points. Since Iginla and Thornton tied for 3rd place their average ranking was 3.5. You were off by 1.5 spots for Iginla, so you get 1.5 points, and off by 0.5 points for Thornton, so you get 2.5 points. Total 7 pts.
In Example C: you get 3 points for guessing Crosby correctly, and Iginla, Heatley & Thornton all tied for an average ranking of 3. You were off by 0.5 spots for both Iginla & Thornton for 2.5 points each, with Heatley ranked correctly for another 3 points. Total 11 pts.
Honestly, don't worry about this shit too much... just rank each group top to bottom.
A $10 entry fee should make things interesting.
Tiebreaker: Best Group A picks, followed by group B, C, D, E. If still tied - split the winnings evenly.
I'll send this same info out over email as well.
Submit picks to me in confidentiality via email by 3pm Tuesday Feb 16th.
(I will submit my picks by mid-thursday to a trusted 3rd party)
