You're probably aware of some of the recent NoVarks rumblings such as: a) possible expansion to the city of Lewis, and b) the competition committee.
It is definitely time to start thinking about forming a competition committee, to help fine-tune the league rules on stuff like expansion, etc.
Here's what I have in mind (in bullet form, of course):
Competition Committee
To form a small group of GM's (approx 3-4)
To join the commissioner at certain points of the year,
To discuss/investigate:
league issues (ie. competitive balance, conflict resolution, etc)
potential rule changes
In order to put together straight-forward, thoroughly studied alternatives
To be later presented to the league to be put to a full-league-vote.
Basically, I'd like to have a few other GM's perspectives, and a few more minds to bounce thoughts and ideas around...
...To have civil, sober, open discussion about the general state of the league, and in particular the competitive integrity of the league.
And perhaps try to 'pre-test' any rule-change alternatives, with mock scenarios or simulations, etc.
I'm certain it's more productive to do things this way, rather than to try to have these discussions and make league decisions as a group of 12 drunk/sweaty/belligerent GM's before a draft of some sort.
I want to make it clear that when it comes to Charter changes, everyone will still have their vote.
Everyone will have their opportunity for input - even if you're not on the committee, email me your concerns/ideas/etc before one of the committee meetings take place and I'll be sure your ideas are considered.
Application process:
I want the GM's on the competition committee to actually want to be there.
I plan on picking the committee members by way of some sort of application process.
Therefore if you're interested, I basically want you to tell me in a short email why you want to take part in this, what would make you a good candidate, etc.
If there are more interested GM's than there are spots available, I'll try to rotate people in/out each season going forward.
If not enough GM's apply, I may ask certain people if they're willing to join.
I'll try to follow-up on this topic in about a week's time, in the meanwhile I've set a tentative deadline for applications - June 15th.
